The Rexburg Animal Shelter is here to help reunite lost animals with their families or to find new homes for those animals whose families can no longer provide an acceptable environment for them.
Unfortunately, many people only look to the animal shelter as a last resort after unsuccessful attempts at other solutions; we're working to change that perspective. The Rexburg Animal Shelter is a valuable resource with employees who are trained in handling animals and animal behaviors. They have the experience and references necessary to help you and your animal with obedience training as well as behavioral issues.
The Rexburg Animal Shelter is a low-kill shelter. While they DO put animals down because of their temperament, age, or general health, sadly, they occasionally have to put some down because they are not able to find loving homes for the animals in their care. Most of the animals in their care are lost or abandoned, but some are given to them by a loving family who can no longer care for them.
If you feel that you can no longer care for your pet, call Four Paws Pet Adoptions or The Rexburg Animal Shelter to see what help may be available. If you decide that you cannot keep your pet though, be sure to share as much information as you can about your pet, i.e. housebroken, likes to ride in cars, does not like baths, does not like other cats, gets along with other dogs, current on shots, likes to chew, etc. This will help us to find the right home, and may enable us to help your companion learn past any bad behaviors.
The Rexburg Animal Shelter does require that you spay/neuter any animal that you adopt. Fees vary from $75+ dollars depending on the species of the animal you are considering adopting. This helps reduce the number of animal deaths each year resulting from over-population. Please spay or neuter your animals!
